Warm wave

According to the World Meteorological Organization (WCDMP-No.47, WMO-TD No.1071), a Warm wave is defined as a period of at least 6 consecutive days in which the daily maximum temperature is 5 °C higher than the daily average during the reference period. However, this definition is more related to the study and analysis of climate variability (on terms of trends) than properly with the public health impacts of extreme temperatures that can be observed in a shorter period. For example, the occurrence of 3 days when the temperature is 10 °C above average will most certainly impact on health than 7 days with temperature 5 °C above the average.
